Foreword

EVERY ONCE IN a while a book comes along that shakes, rattles, and rolls our belief system right to its knees. Filmmaker (Hard Rain and Domestic Violence: the Human Stain) and author (The Mythology of Race Unraveling the Matrix) Eric Gibson is a venerable giant in the field of moral sensitivity and spiritual development. His newest and most controversial book, Men are Really Women with Penises, is drawing mixed reviews.

The American-born writer has delivered a bombshell that is being hailed as one of the most influential books on gender. This book is replete with hard-hitting facts, historical references, and revelations about inequality against women by men. Nuage Productions has already approved a film based upon chapter three of the book titled “A Case for Eve.” It comes as no great surprise that amid such acclaim, the author has received equally sharp criticism, mostly from men. Some of the assaults have been downright cruel.

Gibson, a 53-year-old former New York City Police officer, laughs at the personal attacks when people assume that he is gay because of his stance on gender equality.

"All I can say is I'm attracted to women, so I guess that makes me a lesbian,” he laughs out loud. “Let’s face it - people are conditioned to respond defensively to anything outside the box of conventional reasoning. We live in a go-with-the-crowd society where it is not okay to be anything that is not popular with the crowd. Old fables die hard; history has proven it takes courage to turn its pages.”

The book deals with the persistent insensitivity of the male-dominated society in which men have been taught for thousands of years that women were created from the darling male anatomy, that woman is the byproduct of man. This teaching has given birth to the thinking that God gave men the right to authority. When faced with evidence to the contrary - namely, that man emerged from a woman's body, not a woman from a man (which incidentally always seemed more plausible to me) - the question is no longer about the truth of the matter. The real question becomes: can we handle the truth? The book dwells on Gibson’s acceptance of the fact that the claims, when he first explored them, were shocking and unbelievable. He further elaborates that, given the society we live in, anyone who is prepared to address such a controversial theory should be prepared to be crucified. In fact, he has blatantly stated, “After people finish laughing, being offended, or crucifying, at the end of the day, I stand by my investigation."

Like a capsule into another dimension of space and time, this book opens a great portal of information. Through each of the chapters, Gibson asserts that the doors were opened to him, and he decided to enter and investigate what happened before we arrived at today. Further, he mentions that, for many years, he has been questioning the stories we have been told. In order for them to exist, these stories counted on us to believe them: everything from Adam and Eve to gender identification. In fact, Gibson asserts that the whole binary, one or the other, boy/girl, penis/vagina, sexual identification system needs to be called into question. Amidst throngs of people who are claiming membership into alternate sexual statuses, it is time to return to the scene of the crime and find out the truth behind our sexual origins.

Gibson further mentions, "Seconds after each of us entered the world, a boy/girl, blue or pink label was slapped on us by people who had the same label slapped upon them. We never questioned the sexual orders; we just followed them. For millions of people claiming everything from transgender to homosexuality, those orders have led to an identity crisis and a life of confusion and profound sadness."

Gibson makes the long and arduous journey down the rabbit hole of history to reveal the shocking truth about our true sexual origins. While the door is open, Gibson has seized the opportunity to shine a spotlight and bring the main issues to the forefront, from rape and violence against women to female genital mutilation and gender inequality. Caution is advised because those who are allergic to extreme truth may wish to reconsider before opening this revelation. Once we have unpacked the lies we have been fed, this book will prepare readers for a transformational journey of gender equality, respect, and compassion.
